Ladies and Gentlemen: I am honored to be here to share my feelings with you. “Does school kill students’ creativity?" has always been a controversial topic. A lot of people have given their unique insights, and it seems that what everybody says makes sense. It makes me confused. I’m just here to share my feelings, Maybe, you will find what this little girl has said also makes sense. Let’s think about the question: Can everybody be creative? Without hesitation my answers are NO. Otherwise everybody will be a novelist like Mo Yan who won the Nobel Prize. That’s absolutely impossible. We have to admit that people like Mo Yan are born clever. It is said that Mo Yan liked to tell stories when he was a little boy. But when I was a little girl, my mother was satisfied if I held up five fingers and told her: This is five. Then let’s think about the second question: Do our schools hinder students’ creativity? My answer is also: No Most creative people went through educational system and they did not become good-for-nothings. Here I can give an example. A student named Wang Gao graduated from my school in 1984, He majored in demology in Renmin University and successfully got his Ph.D. He was once a leader in Minute Made in Houston. After returning to China, he works as a professor in Qinghua university. So you see, after receiving education in China, he is still creative. In fact, we can see two extremes in the issue, the most creative, like those great scientists, and the least creative. Most of us are something in between. A convenient example is my mother. Certainly she is not a great scientist (in my heart, she is equally great). She is a little creative, especially when she is in the kitchen. All these years she tries her best to raise me to be a healthy and not too stupid person. She puts her heart on how to make meals both delicious and nutritious, and here I am, the result of her experiments in her kitchen laboratory. So the real situation is that most people are like her. They go through our education system and are still a little creative in life. So my conclusion is that schools do not kill students’ creativity. On the contrary, they give us the essential knowledge and skill on which our creativity can be based.
讲完后一定要讲一句”THANK YOU”(不要加”VERY MUCH”,也不要省略为”THANKS”。
