At the end of the Qin Dynasty(221-206 B.C.) the State of Chu and the Stateof Han fought for control for the country. Xiang Yu, the king of Chu, wasbesieged(包围) at a place called Gaixia by the Han army led by Liu Bang. Xiang Yuwas in a desperate situation, with little food and only a few soliders. Atnight, the surrounding Han troops started to sing Chu folk songs. Xiang Yu wasvery surprised at this, and said:"Has Liu Bang occupied the whole of Chu? Howcan he have drafted so many Chu people into his army?" Then he fled togetherwith the remainder of his forces.
This idiom is used metaphorically to mean to be in a helpless and criticalsituation, surrounded by the enemy on all sides.

以后人们就用“四面楚歌”这个词，形容人们遭受各方面攻击或逼迫，而陷于孤立窘迫的境地。凡是陷于此种境地者，其命运往往是很悲惨的。例如某人因经常与坏人为伍，不事生产，游手好闲，但后来却被那些坏人逼迫得无以为生，而求助于别人时，别人又因他平日行为太坏，绝不同情理睬，这人所处的境地便是“四面楚歌”。

On a vacation trip, Duke Huan of the state of Qi came to the ruin of thecapital of Guo Shi , which perished long ago.
Seeing the desolate and bleak prospects of broken tiles, collapsed walls,and clusters of weeds, he could not help asking the local people about thereason of the ruin of Guo Shi.
They replied,"Guo Shi was fond of doing good deeds, and averse toevildoing, which led to the perdition."
When the Duke could not understand the answer, people explained ," Thoughhe liked doing good, he had never been able to do so; though he hated evildoing,never could he help not participating. That caused the ruin of his capital."

Chunyu Kun (淳于髡) lived in the state of Qi (齐国) during the Warring StatesPeriod (战国,475-221 BC).He was wise, humorous and eloquent. He skillfully advisedthe king on many occasions and successfully went to many states as an envoy.
战国时期，齐国有个叫淳于髡的人。他幽默机智，能说会道，给齐威王出过许多好主意，并且成功出使了许多其他的国家。
In the year 349 BC, the State of Chu (楚国) dispatched a large force toattack Qi.

During the meal, the king asked Chunyu Kun, "How much wine can you drinkbefore you're drunk, Sir?"

Knowing the king had a bad habit of drinking all night, Chunyu Kun decidedto take this chance to admonish the king. So he replied, "I get drunk when Idrink ten litres or hundred."

Puzzled, the king asked, "Since you are drunk after ten litres, how can youfinish another ninty litres?"

Chunyu Kun then explained that he could drink different amounts of wineunder different conditions. He said, "This occurs to me that when you drink toyour limit, you get so drunk that you lose your sense; once joy reaches itsheight, then it's sorrow's turn. This is the rule for everything. Whatever youdo, you are bound to end up in the opposite direction when you exceed thelimits."

I have studied in my middle school for three years. I have learned a lot. I have learned not only how to make friends but also how to talk to others. I have many hobbies. I like sports. I often play basketball, football and volleyball with my friends. Football is my favorite. Of all my subjects, I do best in English and Chinese. But my math and physics are a little weak. I think I will try my best to learn them well. I hope I can study in No.1 High School.
