If you see a student in a college holding a number of cushions in his arm and heading for the lecture room around 9 PM just before gonging back to the dorm, don't feel surprised or even panic. Because everyone knows what he is doing to preoccupy the seats for the lecture next day, of course, not only for himself, his GF or dorm mates, but also for anyone who has the same intention.

When it comes to the phenomenon of preoccupying seats on campus, a majority of people will condemn this behavior for its selfishness. However, when we further analyze the different motives of the students, you would see they are not the same cases. If the purpose is to get a better seat for better understanding of the course, instead of being criticized, I think these group students should be highly spoken of for their initiatives. As the English saying goes," It's the early bird that catches the worm." On the other hand, if the purpose is to get a fitter seat for a better sleeping or an absent mind, not only his cushion, but also himself should be thrown out of the classroom. A compulsory attendance without the proper attitude can even spoil the lecture, hurting the professor and the students at the same time. Yet the third occasion might be more disturbing or even irritating, that is to leave a preoccupied seat empty in the lecture. For these group people, maybe some educational methods are to be adopted, because they are just the ones we term as selfish grasping the opportunity beforehand, but not valuing it, meanwhile depriving of others' chances.

As we can see, behind the phenomenon of seats preoccupation exist different motives and purpose, but one conclusion seems .quite evident ~ opportunities always favor those prepared minds, but once you have got them, cherishment would be more significant.

Reserving a Seat

We often see there is a table cloth, a book or something else on the desk in the classroom or library, indicating the seat is taken. This kind of phenomenon is very usual in almost all colleges and universities. Strangely enough, most of students seem to take this for granted, and few will protest it.

Though most of students’ taking seats in advance is for better study, this kind of phenomenon has great negative effects. On the one hand, it is a selfish behavior, which damages other students’ interests. Sometimes even if many students come to the classroom very early, they can not find a seat. On the other hand, reserving a seat violates the rule of fairness. No matter how late you come to class, the seat is still reserved for you even though many others are eager for that seat.

Considering the above-mentioned, I think, it is high time that we college students took a good look of our behavior. Indeed, only if all of us can improve our consciousness, it is not a difficult task for us to get rid of this kind of phenomenon “reserving a seat”.

On College Students' Occupying Seats

In English, there is an expression “First Come, First Served” (FCFS). This stresses the need for orderliness, which also applies to college students' searching for seats in the reading rooms of a library. However, in China, things are somehow complicated. Instead of occupying seats with their own persons, students tend to use books, backpacks or other personal objects to stand for their “legitimate” ownership of the seats.

To such extent, the emergence of such a practice, now almost ubiquitous on all campuses, is justified. The seats for students to conduct self-study are limited and university authorities should endeavor to increase such facilities to satisfy students' needs. At least, students' efforts to fight for seats indicate they are enthusiastic about their studies—their academic initiatives should be duly recognized and encouraged! However, using personal belongings to occupy seats may exacerbate the scarcity of facilities—some irresponsible students might never turn up, sometimes even for days. They waste the precious resources and damage the interests of other students who have real needs. Such behavior deserves unconditional criticism and condemnation.

Both university authorities and students should do their best to solve the problem. The authorities should create more reading rooms to satisfy students' needs whereas students should not waste the already limited resources. In this way, an optimum allocation of resources can be realized and all students would enjoy their studies.

Salaries should reflect people’s dedication and job responsibilities. However, sports figures, who don’t benefit the community in general, earn millions of dollars each. In my opinion this is wrong. Things should be done to change this situation.

If we take the example of a sport star such as Tyson, it is hard for us to say in what way he benefits the society. In fact, his disobeying game rules sets a bad example for young people, and his abandoned behavior encourages people to experiment with sex and violence. Besides, his job does not require special skills or years of training and education. Although he can entertain and excite audience, I do not think he is justified to receive so much money and his job can be considered essential.

On the other hand, most people in ‘ordinary’ professions like nurses, doctors and teachers earn only a small fraction of the income of these “stars”. For instance, teachers disseminate knowledge to the society; doctors and nurses give patients good medical care and prolong their life. They are much more useful, and actually more essential to society than sports personalities. Without these ‘ordinary’ professions, our society would stop progressing. Their salaries should relate to skill, education or the value of the inpidual to society.

Things should be done to make salaries fairer. Huge amounts of money shall be given to more deserving people. It seems that the only solution is to impose heavy taxes upon people who earn excessively high salaries. (281 words)

As students, we always have a lot of exams/tests every term. tests are used nowadays to check/examine/measure how well /effectively students study. exams are a very useful and important educational tool of measurement.

However, exams have some side effects of their own. first, some exams cant reflect the real progress students make. second, too difficult or too many exams force students to cheat in exams. too many exams force students to study for the sake of exams only, to name just a few.

In my opinion, advantages of exams far outweigh their disadvantages. despite their side effects, exams can on the whole check and show how well students study scientifically and accurately. at least so far there has been not any method that take their place in education. besides, exams seem to be fair to all students as they are objective and everyone is equal before test results.

To conclude, exams may continue to exist in our education for a long time before they are replaced by some better measurement methods.

对作弊现象的建议(Suggestions To Cheating)

At present, a number of middle school students have picked up a bad habit - cheating in examinations.

There are three main reasons. First, schools have given students too many exams, some of which are too difficult. Second, some students are not hard-working and they don't work hard at their lessons. Third, they waste a lot of time playing games or surfing the Internet. So they haven't enough time to prepare for the exams. Finally, students have to do so to make their teachers and parents happy.

In my opinion, cheating in exams does great harm to our study. We students should be honest and diligent, and only in this way can we improve our study and make progress. Besides, our teachers should offer us fewer exams and more time to study for ourselves.
