Far and away the most important holiday in China is Spring Festival, also known as theChinese New Year. To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West. the dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than theGREgorian calendar, so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February.
To the ordinary Chinese, the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Years Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar. But the 15th of the first month, which normally is called the Lantern Festival, means the official end of the SpringFestival in many parts of the country.
很久以来中国最重要的节日是春节，也被称为中国的新年。对中国人来说就像西方人的圣诞节一样重要。这个一年一度的庆祝活动的日期是由农历而不是公历确定的，因此假日的时间变化从一月下旬到二月上旬。

该是下饺子的时候了，摒弃了平常用的煤气，而是启用了逐渐淘汰的灶台。大锅里倒上满满的一锅水，灶台下柴火烧得正旺，风箱被拉得呼呼作响，饺子被一个个地赶下了锅。这时，小孩子按捺不住好奇心，也要跑来帮忙拉风箱、添柴火。饺子煮好了，孩子们的手和脸也变黑了。
饺子真正上桌的时候，已是晚上八点多钟了，这时春晚也开始了。男人们在大厅里划拳喝酒，看着春晚，一片热闹;女人们则在厨房另拼一桌，轻声细语地扯着家常，一片温馨。农村有个习俗：女人是不能上正桌吃饭的。
即使过了那么多次春节，也仍然忘不了那袅袅蒸气后那些朦胧的脸庞，忘不了饺子入口时那一刻的温馨，忘不了春节那和睦的气氛。
