Today, with the fast development of science and technology, the artificialintelligence has gone much further than people can imagine, such as the robot. Now the first robot is admitted to be a citizen, which scares so many people. Many scientists had predicted that someday robots would replace human being notonly in physical work, but also in minds. How terrible it would be. It is saidthat scientists saw two robots discussing by creating a new language, then theydecided to turn down the machine and made them stop working. They knew clearlythe danger may happen in the future. Most people have thought aboutself-consciousness that robot may have some day, but scientists still have a lotof passion in searching the robots. They want to complete everything. But no onecan make sure what they can bring for human being.

Many years ago, when scientists tried to make a robot to do some humanwork, they could never thought about how far the robot could go. Today, somescientists even predict that the wisdom of robot will surpass human being andtake place of us. In the science fiction movies, the directors have explored theconsciousness of intelligent machines, who showed how these machines controlledpeople at last. The directors warned people that they may lose the dominantposition in the future. Recently, a robot was given the citizenship and itbecame the first robot to be treated as human being. The public was shocked, butwhen they saw the robot could communicate with human beings and question aboutmatters, they felt scared. Maybe in the future, the robot will replace us inmany aspects.

Here is a difference between science and technology.Science is a method ofanswering theoretical questions; technology is a method of solving practicalproblems. Science has to do with discovering the facts and relationships betweenobservable phenomena in nature and with establishing theories that serve toorganize these facts and relationships; technology has to do withtools, techniques, and procedures for implementing the findings of science.

Another distinction between science and technology has to do with theprogress in each. Progress in science excludes the human factor. Scientists, whoseek to comprehend the universe and know the truth with the highest degree ofaccuracy and certainty, cannot pay heed to their own or other people's likes ordislikes, or to popular ideas about the fitness of things. What scientistsdiscover may shock or anger people--as did Darwin's theory of evolution. Buteven an unpleasant truth is more than likely to be useful; besides, we have theoption of refusing to believe it! But hardly so with technology;we do not havethe option of refusing to hear the sonic boom produced by a supersonicaircraft-flying overhead; we do not have the option of refusing to breathepolluted air. Unlike science, progress in technology must be our slave and notthe reverse. The legitimate purpose of technology is to serve peopie--people ingeneral, not merely some people; and future generations, not merely those whopresently wish to gain advantage for themselves.

We are all familiar with the abuses of technology. Many people blametechnology itself for widespread pollution, resource depletion and even socialdecay in general--so much so that the promise of technology is obscured. Thatpromise is a cleaner and healthier world. If wise applications of science andtechnology do not lead to a better world, what else will?

I really want to be a scientist. I think the scientist is the best job for me. A good scientist can make the world change a lot. If I become a scientist, I will make the desert be coverd with green trees and grasses, make the war never take places and so on. Now, although I am only a middle school student, I am interested in math and physics. Maybe I have a little of creativity.

I will study science harder and harder. I believe that "There is a will, there is a way! "

Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin

Thomas Edison lived from 1847 to 1931; he is most famous for inventing the light bulb. Benjamin Franklin lived from 1706 to 1790, and he is credited with discovering electricity.

Both men were inventors, and both were born in the United States. As children, both Franklin and Edison had limited schooling.

Both inventors are said to have self-taught themselves mostly through their love of reading.

Franklin and Edison were both interested in electricity, and I think they would have had a lot to talk about if they had ever met face-to-face.

They were different too though. They lived in very different times. While Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity. Edison‘s inventions and discoveries all required electrical currents: light bulbs, microphones, phonographs, fluoroscopes, etc.
