China has a history of more than five thousand years, whose culture is various. Chinese people are so proud of their culture and many traditional arts are part of the national treasure, such as the festivals that contain the myths and the handwork.
Paper-cut is an extraordinary art, which is using scissors to cut paper into graphics. This art just needs simple tool, but it is not easy at all. When we look at the masters to cut paper, it takes them only a few minutes to finish, in fact, for a freshman, they need to practise for a long time. This art has a long history. It reflects the wisdom of Chinese people.

My grandma inherits this art, and she can cut a lot of graphics. When I was very small, she tried to teach me this handwork, but I was addicted to playing computer games. Now I feel so regretful, because paper-cut is treasure, and many foreigners love it. But as a Chinese, I used to refuse it. The in-heritage of tradition needs everybody’s passion.

On the one hand, art is an important way to express people's opinion. When we see the pictures, the difference between classical and ordinary paintings lies in the thoughts. The famous artists implant their ideas in the pictures, which are admitted by the public, so the value of arts can be seen. Some famous artists expressed their unique opinion and gives arts great meaning.

On the other hand, art is not only from works, but also from life. For example, my mother cooks the delicious food. Everybody speaks highly of her. So her food brings people great happiness, which makes the food an art for me. What's more, my friends is good at communicating. The way she talks can convince other easily, so I call the way she communicates as an art.

In all, for me, art is around. It brings people a way to see the world or makes our life wonderful.

What is art? When people think about this question, they will naturally think about all kinds of musical instruments or the great paintings in the art museums. Art seems to so far away from the ordinary people, but I don’t think so. Art is everywhere. For example, the delicious food that is made by our parents is the great art, and the value of the food is to bring people the great joy when they have a taste of it. The scenery around us is the visible art, when we appreciate it, our mood become eased. Art is something that brings people the positive value for me, so art is around everybody. If we take time to slow down our pace, then we can enjoy art from life and feel the comfortable lifestyle.

My Thoughts on the University Arts Festival

For our university's arts festival, I think that the university should hold open competitions and auditions for anyone who wants to take part in the festival's exhibitions and performances. This would not only increase general interest in and appreciation for the arts, but would also be a good way for our university to show its support for the arts.

This arts festival is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone that arts are important for everyone to appreciate and take part in, regardless of major.

I think that there should be general, open auditions and competitions in all the major arts. There should be categories for painting and sculpture; classical, folk and modem dance; and instrumental and choral groups, both large and small. The judges should be joint committees made up of both faculty and Students, both experts in the field and novices. Arranging the festival in this way will, I believe, give our student body a greater enjoyment of the arts, a break from studies and a fuller appreciation for what it means to be human.

There were also some handworks, which were so creative, it reflected the students’ wisdom. Though we were busy with our subjects most of the time, some students still kept on their hobbies and made it their talent. I should learn from them and develop some interest.

One of the best ways to convey exactly how you feel about someone is through written words. Finding the perfect way to say what you mean — when it comes to love — can be a challenging task for anyone. So, we’ve gathered some helpful tips. Go ahead; spill your heart onto a piece of paper. Whether through a one-line sentiment, a poem, or some prose — let them know how you feel!

Tips for writing your own love letters

Make it personal. Writing a love letter is a dying art. So if you’re going to say it — mean it! Express your gratitude for the person being in your life.

Include any special nicknames that the two of you share.

Be specific. What are the things that he/she does to make you starry-eyed? Is it the way he gets a little teary at a sad movie? Is it the way she can’t wake up without her green tea?

Include memories of specific times you spent together. Let him/her know what they meant to you and why.

Whether you’re sending it by mail or delivering it to them personally, hand-write it. Typed letters are sterile. If you’re even thinking about e-mail, then do something creative like designing a personalized “home page” love letter. You can get free templates at Colleges.com.

Love quotes

People have been writing about love for centuries. Love quotes can capture exactly how you feel about your sweet in just a few words. Make up your own, or borrow a few of these to add to your letter.

“Those who love deeply never grow old.”

“Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.” (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)

“For an instant, love can transform the world.”

“It’s not being in love that makes me happy. It’s being in love with YOU that makes me happy.”

“If there is anything better than to be loved, it is loving.”

“Did I tell you today how much I love you?”

Creative expression

Think a letter is too boring? Here are 10 ways to get your message across and have it remembered.

1. Write your message in magnetic letters on their refrigerator.

2. Create a Letter Hunt.

Leave a note on his/her computer telling him/her you have written him/her a love letter, but it has to be found. Give a clue. Clue to clue to clue. Make your lover search for the prize.

3. Send your love roses according to how many letters he/she has in their name.

On each flower, attach a note that uses the letters of their name, as the first letter of the message. For example: “Sean.” The first rose could say, “Sometimes I get starry-eyed when I look at you.” The second, “Everything you do makes me happy.” And so on.

China is a country where the preparation and appreciation of food has been developed to the highest level. The art of Chinese cooking has been developed and refined over many centuries. Emperor Fuxi taught people to fish, hunt, grow crops and to cook twenty centuries before Christ. However, cooking could not be considered an art until the Chou Dynasty. The two dominant philosophies of the Chinese culture are Confucianism and Taoism. Each influenced the course of Chinese history and the development of the culinary arts. Confucianism concerned itself with the art of cooking and placed great emphasis on the enjoyment of life. To the Chinese, food and friends are inseparable. A gathering without food is considered inplete and improper.

Confucius loved and respected the art of cooking. He established culinary standards and proper table etiquette. Most of these are still considered to be the standards even today. The tradition of cutting foods into bite size pieces during preparation is unique to the Chinese culture. The use of knives at a Chinese dinner is considerd poor taste. Confucius taught that good cooking depends on the blending of various ingredients and condiments rather than the taste of the individual elements. He believed that in order to bee a good cook one must first be a good matchmaker. The flavors of the ingredients must be blended with harmony. Without harmony there is no taste. He also stressed the use of color and texture in preparing the dish. Most certainly Confucianism helped elevate cooking from a menial task to the status of an art, "the art of Chinese cooking." Taoism was responsible for the development of the hygienic aspects of food and cooking. The principle objectives of this philosophy were people's wish for longevity. In contrast to supporters of Confucianism who were interested in the taste, texture and appearance, Taoists were concerned with the life-giving attributes of various foods. Over the centuries the Chinese have explored the world of plants, roots, herbs, fungus and seeds to find life-giving elements. They discovered that the nutritional value of vegetables could be destroyed by improper cooking and that many items had medicinal value. For example, ginger, a favorite condiment, is also used to soothe an upset stomach and as a cold remedy.
