什么样的作文才算是优秀的英语作文？什么样的作文才是教师或改卷人心中的高分作文？一篇满分或接近满分的英语作文和一篇得分居中的英语作文区别在什么地方？
学过几年英语的人,都一定有这样的感觉:自己不一定能够写出好的文章,但是当读到一篇美文时,却能意识到这篇文章写得很好。产生这种感觉的又是什么？
这就是语言的应用。
文章的结构是重要的。条理清楚,观点鲜明,论证有力等都是个中因素;而这些因素的存在也是大学英语四级作文得高分的充要条件。但就中国学生用英语写作而言,他们往往更注意文章的内容应当如何新颖,如何华丽。殊不知,若是论大学英语的考试作文,他们的注意力则放偏了。因为在改卷过程中,改卷人不会也不太可能将每一个考生的作文通篇阅览,而是通过如下两种方法来批改:
1改每一段的头一句
英语作文的写作手法和中文作文的写作顺序完全不一样,中文通常将最重要的部分最后才体现,而英文恰恰相反,最重要部分就是段落的第一句(故通常将英语段落的第一句称作中心句或总结句)。
2根据标点符号改长句
通过找中间间隔较长的两个标点符号来批改在此之间的句子,因为长句最能体现一个学生英语的语法和表达法。
简言之,写四级考试作文得高分的技巧或关键就在于作文结构的控制以及表达法的正确运用。本文的意旨即为论述这两个关键点:
2.1大学英语作文结构的习得
大学英语的作文形式都是论说文,而此前已经论述过,论说文中段落的第一句则是该段的中心句。故:
大学英语作文的结构表现得好不好,就要看第一句是否写得好。
怎样才能做到这一点呢？就要靠平时的大量阅读、归纳、摘抄、积累、背诵,写作时才能得心应手,熟练应用。
要归纳记叙文中漂亮、地道的语句是困难的,这也就是至今还没有一本书类似英语描写辞典的缘故。但是要归纳论说文这个各种英语考试,如大学英语四、六级,专业英语四、八级等等都采用的作文类型却不是不可能的。
论说文是由开头,结尾,启转,分析,举例,比较等部分组成的,其中都有一些固定而漂亮的句型来表达。例如在结尾段,接上一段对某一问题的分析后,要写改进的建议或解决的办法时,就有句型“Definingtheproblemiseasierthanprovidingthesolution.”或“Recognitionoftheproblemisonlythefirststepintherighttowarditssolution.”等引出。由于这些句型都是地道的英语,是经过千锤百炼,且能表达论说文写作中的不同意思,教师若能将此类句型归纳成类并授之学生,无疑能有助于提高英语写作的语言水平。
2.2大学英语作文句子表达法的习得
在与学生交流时,他们常对我说:为什么我刚进大学学英语是写的作文是8分,学了1年半的英语,在四级考试中的写作还是8分。事实上,该生就忽略了一个四级考试作文的批改习惯。即:Itisnotwhatyousay.Itisthewaythatyousayit.也就是说,在四级作文的批改过程中,比起你所写的内容,改卷人更重视的是形式。而这里的形式,从其深层意义来剖析,它指的是表达法的运用。
①对于表达法的运用的最基本的要求就是语法的正确性。若学生的作文连句子都无法写正确的话,那么自然该生的英语能力在改卷人心中会大打折扣,自然他的作文分数也不会高。举例说明: 例一:希望你早日康复。

[说明]动词hope之后,可以用不定式宾语,但不用复合宾语的结构。故第一句是犯了误用动词的错误。
例二:她或许会被选为校长。
[误]Shemaybetheonewhowillbechosenasaheadmaster.
[正]Shemaybetheonewhowillbechosenasaheadmaster.
[说明]maybe是副词,副词不可作谓语。而在maybe中,may为情态动词,而be为动词。放在句中作谓语。故第一句则误将副词‘maybe’作为句子的谓语。
上述二例,皆为学生常犯之错误,而这种错误则是改卷老师不能够允许的,故教师平时须将语法作为重点来讲授,并辅以练习。如此方可起到学生对语法习得的加强作用。
②在四级作文中,仅仅是写对句子,那么分数让不会太让人满意。而真正的高分作文,则一定要有能够出彩的`句子。所谓写出出彩的句子,在笔者看来,则是运用漂亮而地道的英语表达法。
模仿和学用地道的英语表达法或句型并不是可耻的事。地道的英语不应是用过的词汇和语法规则按某个意思苦苦思索创造出来的,而是把英美人对这个意思的习惯说法用的自己的文章上来。好的英文写作者从不写她没有看过或读到过或听到过的英语,而只写英美人习惯说或写的句子。例如要表达“工作使我感到满足”这个意思时,他不大会用这样的句子:Workmakesmefeelsatisfied,而用:Workisasourceofsatisfactiontome.若能一篇四级作文中能这样的几个句子,那么阅卷者对该文章的满意度就会大幅提高。
有句话说得好:“冰冻三尺,非一日之寒”。对于提高作文水平也是一样。是和英文学习者长期的阅读,积累,实践是密切相关的。本文对于一些大学刚入校学生会增强他们学习句子结构,语法,进而积累地道英语的意识以及通过对改卷人评分侧重点的分析,强化他们对于上述写作关键点的学习目的。
