When I was in Grade 8, I read the book "Robinson Crusoe".

The main character is Robinson. When he was a child, he liked sailing very much. But his father didn't agree with him. Finally, when he was a young man, his father's friends wanted to take his father's boat. And he went with them. Unluckily, the boat ran up on a rock and this made a lot of sailors and passengers die but Robinson was alive! He went on a small land. There was nobody, no water or food. You could imagine that it was too hard to live. However, he put up a tent and got things from the broken boat. As the months went by, Robinson learnt to make bread by himself. Then he found some groups of sheep. They were trained and eaten by Robinson. Twenty years later, there was a boat coming from England and Robinson was saved.

The writer of this book is Daniel Defoe. Robinson was a great miracle. He achieved numerous "Impossible things". Robinson Crusoe was immortal novel, because it showed us a courageous, brave, confidence. A vanquish able nature, a hero who exploited nature.

There is no perfect life in the world. But we can change our fate. If we have confidence and work hard, we absolutely will be victorious and the most important thing is "Never give up!" I believe that nothing is impossible!

it is certain for we human beings to be proud of our brilliant civilization, which offers us the comfortable life. our civilization wouldn’t develop so rapidly without the endless stream of great scientific achievements. it is electricity that plays an important role and stands out among these achievements. and we should be grateful to the scientists who had found the way to produce electricity.

in 1831,faraday, an ecellent scientist from england, summed up a law which is called faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. this law tells us how to induct electric current with magnets, faraday’ law made the book of our history turned to anew page, the age of electricitythe law belongs to the foundation of the theory of electromagnetics. the scientist worked in this field for a long time and then brought us today’s life: e-life. it is now easy to find a telephone or a light. computers also become more and more important and popular. we use electricity in various ways: doing house work, entertaining, having important meetings on the internet and so on. imagine this: when watching tv, you find the telephone ranging. so you turned on the light and answer it. it is your cousin who asks about how to use the new soft ware you give him. so you send him an e-mail. all these seems to be too simple and common. but in any of these, electricity is always playing an important role. what if there was no electricity? full of darkness at night, no internet, no televisions……that would be terrible!

so……

thanks to the scientists achievements, we can live such a comfortable life. so when you are doing your homework by the lamp, or watching an nba match or surfing the internet, please say to faraday and the other scientists in your mind sincerely: thank you!

Get together gather ……, family reunion.

In China, Mid-autumn Day is considered to be a symbol of family reunion. On this day, all the family members gather together at home to celebrate this special occasion. Last year, I could not celebrate the festival with my family because I was in university. However, this special day left a deep impression on me.

I still remember the atmosphere of that evening. All the students who could not go back home assembled in our classroom, having a party to celebrate this traditional festival. We tried our best to show our own enthusiasm. As an ethnic minority, I performed a peacock dance, which received warm applause. After the two-hour party, we went out to the playground and sat together to appreciate the moon because it is a tradition on Mid-autumn Day. We ate moon cakes, played cards, and listened to romantic poems recited by one of our classmates. In that harmonious atmosphere, nobody felt lonely or homesick even though we were far away from our homes.

Thanks to our classmates, I experienced such a colorful and interesting Mid-autumn Day at my university. Thus, I learned to value all the festivals I spent during my university life.

a light drizzle was falling as my sister jill and i ran out of the methodist church, eager to get home and play with the presents that santa had left for us and our baby sister, sharon. across the street from the church was a pan american gas station where the greyhound bus stopped. it was closed for christmas, but i noticed a family standing outside the locked door, huddled under the narrow overhang in an attempt to keep dry. i wondered briefly why they were there but then forgot about them as i raced to keep up with jill.

once we got home, there was barely time to enjoy our presents. we had to go off to our grandparents’ house for our annual christmas dinner. as we drove down the highway through town, i noticed that the family was still there, standing outside the closed gas station.

my father was driving very slowly down the highway. the closer we got to the turnoff for my grandparents’ house, the slower the car went. suddenly, my father u-turned in the middle of the road and said, “i can’t stand it!”

“what?” asked my mother.

“it‘s those people back there at the pan am, standing in the rain. they‘ve got children. it‘s christmas. i can’t stand it.”

when my father pulled into the service station, i saw that there were five of them: the parents and three children — two girls and a small boy.

my father rolled down his window. “merry christmas,” he said.

“howdy,” the man replied. he was very tall and had to stoop slightly to peer into the car.

jill, sharon, and i stared at the children, and they stared back at us.

“you waiting on the bus?” my father asked.

the man said that they were. they were going to birminghamm, where he had a brother and prospects of a job.

“well, that bus isn’t going to come along for several hours, and you’re getting wet standing here. winborn’s just a couple miles up the road. they’ve got a shed with a cover there, and some benches,” my father said. “why don‘t y’all get in the car and i’ll run you up there.”

the man thought about it for a moment, and then he beckoned to his family. they climbed into the car. they had no luggage, only the clothes they were wearing.

once they settled in, my father looked back over his shoulder and asked the children if santa had found them yet. three glum faces mutely gave him his answer.

“well, i didn’t think so,” my father said, winking at my mother, “because when i saw santa this morning, he told me that he was having trouble finding all, and he asked me if he could leave your toys at my house. we‘ll just go get them before i take you to the bus stop.”

all at once, the three children‘s faces lit up, and they began to bounce around in the back seat, laughing and chattering.

when we got out of the car at our house, the three children ran through the front door and straight to the toys that were spread out under our christmas tree. one of the girls spied jill’s doll and immediately hugged it to her breast. i remember that the little boy grabbed sharon’s ball. and the other girl picked up something of mine. all this happened a long time ago, but the memory of it remains clear. that was the christmas when my sisters and i learned the joy of making others happy.

my mother noticed that the middle child was wearing a short-sleeved dress, so she gave the girl jill’s only sweater to wear.

my father invited them to join us at our grandparents’ for christmas dinner, but the parents refused. even when we all tried to talk them into coming, they were firm in their decision.

back in the car, on the way to winborn, my father asked the man if he had money for bus fare.

his brother had sent tickets, the man said.

my father reached into his pocket and pulled out two dollars, which was all he had left until his next payday. he pressed the money into the man’s hand. the man tried to give it back, but my father insisted. “it’ll be late when you get to birmingham, and these children will be hungry before then. take it. i’ve been broke before, and i know what it’s like when you can’t feed your family.”

we left them there at the bus stop in winborn. as we drove away, i watched out the window as long as i could, looking back at the little gihugging her new doll.

I love English”

the national day is a designated date on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a country.(国庆节)often the national day will be a national holiday.

the national day is often taken as the date on which a state or territory achieved independence. other dates such as the country's patron saint day, or a significant historic date are sometimes used. most countries have a single national day per year, though a few, for example, india and pakistan, have more than one. besides that, each of the two special administrative regions of the people's republic of china, namely hong kong and macao, celebrate the day of the establishment of the special administrative region, as well as the national day of the people's republic of china.

the importance attached to the national day, and the degree to which it is celebrated, vary enormously from country to country. in france, for example, national day is 14 july and is known as bastille day. it is widely celebrated and the french tricolour is much in evidence, while the president of the republic attends a military parade on the champs-élysées of paris. in the united states, the fourth of july celebrations are widely celebrated with fireworks and barbecues. in the republic of ireland, st. patrick's day, march 17, has been the national day and a public holiday for many years, and in recent years it has been observed as a full public holiday in northern ireland too. however, in the rest of the united kingdom the constituent countries' patron saints' days are low-key affairs.

“A班?”

my wife, shirley, and i have gone on vacations to a quiet beach in southwestern florida for most of our married life. if that beach could talk, it would tell of teenage newlyweds who sunned and wrote "i love you" on its sands. it would tell of a little girl with eyes the color of the sea gathering seashells and of three wild boys leaping and diving into the surf. it would tell of joyous visits over the years from friends, parents, grandparents, new brides and grooms -- and now grandchildren. the beach would tell glorious tales of warmth and gratitude. collected by www?

but i realized one day that i had rarely expressed my gratitude to the one who’d lived those years with me. on our 40th wedding anniversary, shirley and i walked again the familiar margin of the sea. i told her then how thankful i was that she shared my life.

we don’t have to wait for anniversaries to thank the ones closest to us -- the ones so easily overlooked. if i have learned anything about giving thanks, it is this: give it now! while your feeling of appreciation is alive and sincere, act on it. saying thanks is such an easy way to add to the world’s happiness.collected by www?

a few years ago, a young woman from a neighboring town won a scholarship to a prestigious college. although the inner-city high school she attended was plagued with problems, she overcame them and excelled. when she graduated, she commended the often-maligned school for its challenging courses and her teachers for their special interest and encouragement. "i can’t say enough good things about the school and the teachers who gave me so much of themselves," she said. "i shall be eternally grateful to them."collected by

saying thanks not only brightens someone else’s world, it brightens yours. if you’re feeling left out, unloved or unappreciated, try reaching out to others. it may be just the medicine you need.

before a. j. cronin became a bestselling author, he was a doctor. once he told about a colleague who gave an unusual prescription to patients afflicted with worry, fear, discouragement or self-doubt. the doctor called it his thank-you cure. "for six weeks i want you to say thank you whenever anyone does you a favor. and to show you mean it, emphasize the words with a smile." within six weeks most of the doctor’s patients showed great improvement.collected by

of course, there are times when you can’t express gratitude immediately. in that case don’t let embarrassment sink you into silence -- speak up the first time you have the chance.

i recently returned home to montpelier, ohio, for a short visit. memories of my boyhood flooded back as i walked the familiar streets. then i saw mrs. bible, and my mind flashed back to high school.collected by

i was a freshman, more interested in sports than school work, and i was falling behind in my latin class. then violet bible, a neighbor who was a schoolteacher, found out about my problem. "oh, latin’s great fun," she told me. "come over tonight after dinner and i’ll show you." for the next several weeks, she tutored me until i could conjugate with the best of them -- well, almost. anyway, i passed. at the callow age of 14 it seemed perfectly natural to me that a working wife and mother had nothing better to do after a hard day’s work than tutor me in latin.collected by

now as i saw her, i realized what an uncommon sacrifice it had been. and, after all those years, i told her so! "what you did was way beyond the call of duty," i said. "thank you." i was rewarded with a surprised smile and a sparkle in her eyes.

each human being is yearning for kind words of appreciation. in december 1991, 17-year-old candi brown’s car overturned; the roof collapsed and crushed her skull. the crews of engine company 8 and med 15 in grayson, ga., rushed her to gwinnett medical center. doctors told her parents to prepare for the worst. but candi survived. a year later the family served a holiday dinner to the gwinnett county firefighters and emergency medical technicians. during dinner candi, whose goal is to walk naturally again, rose painfully and said, "thank you for helping god save my life and giving me a second chance. i love you."collected by.
