【扫墓的意义】
一、扫墓的用意在于祖德流芳
古人订下清明扫墓的节日，要子孙藉打扫祖先坟墓的机会提醒自己：不坏祖德，不忘祖恩，俾能使祖德流芳万世。进而使家家户户，大大小小一致地顾念到祖先传宗接代的恩情，念念不忘于祖先传世不朽的美德。
再者，由于一般人的祖先大都未曾造作利众的善德，所以常人所要流芳的是自己的祖德;不是他人的祖德。只有祖先当了佛祖，才能要别人一齐来流芳自己的祖德。自己的祖先别人会来拜，会来流芳，是因为有德，曾去庇佑、照顾别人之故。
二、祖德何在?
至于祖先对自己是否有恩德?试想：若非祖先有传宗接代之德，哪有现在的我们这副身体?若非祖先有辛勤创业之德，有代代进步，从未懈怠之德，我们那能吹冷气，开轿车?我们那能住有抽水马桶的房子?一定仍住在厕所一进去就臭气冲天的房子里，整天吸收厕所的臭气。可以说一切社会潮流的进化、文明;我们生活的舒适、方便，无不来自祖先之德。
若是祖先无德，怠于承先启后，后人就只能活在不方便，茹毛饮血的原始生活中。尤其，祖先不但传端正的身相给我们，更传正心给我们;此德此恩更是大如昊天。所以我们一方面要感恩祖德，不忘祖德;一方面要将此祖德正心流布下去。
例如：若有人的祖先由于为人老实，从不说人是非，从未行淫为恶，所以到了这一代富厚丰盛，子孙科甲连绵。则这一代的子孙在富厚之余，自要不断地缅怀祖先心行老实，口德身行清净的庇荫，并将此受庇荫的因果详情向子孙传述下去，期望子孙也如此有德，而继续富厚下去。
尤其学佛之人更要感恩祖德。因为所有的人之所以能够学佛，所靠的全是祖德的庇荫。只要祖德有亏，学佛就会遇上邪师、劣友的破坏、误引;就无法有始有终。
三、如何扫墓才有功德
因此，在清扫祖坟之时，更要清扫祖德，不让祖德蒙尘、受垢，以保持自己的身心清净、端正，可以流芳万世，利润后人，不致成为歪曲、偏邪之人。同时，祖德若有歪邪的品行，不全的德行，要及时澈底清扫得清净;修正得端正，尤其不要教歪邪、不好的心行，传流下去。要流善芳，不可流恶行，子孙才可以得到成功。
有的祖先由于无明，所以曾造下一些不好的行为，如果让祖先再起于地下，他们必定会十分悔恨而寻求修改。只是祖先们已经没有机会再修改，只有依靠贤良的子孙来修改、修补。所以今天我们能学佛，成为贤良的子孙，一定要谨慎，不可再继承不好的祖行。在尚未有能力的时候，自然无法处理祖先不好的行为恶业，等到有机会，有能力、有智慧的时候，一定要将祖先会骂人、嫌人，会欺侮人的业因种子赶快处理掉、改掉，不要再留存、流传下去。
如同在照顾房子，房子如果有破裂、塌陷、不良的，要速补修缮。庭院的地上有凹洞，一下雨就积水的，要速打通水道，清除积水，不可以再扩大洞穴，致积留更多的废水，生蚊生虫，屋内阴湿不堪，住了生病。
一个家庭只要有了恶业，无论多高明，多有地位，无不很快就败落下去。如同一位再强壮的人，也禁不住别人一直地用手打，用石头敲。一位十分有地位的人，也得尽量地避免所有的伤害。
所以，对一个家庭而言，一切恶行，不论是恶口、淫行、邪心、杀生，都如同鬼魅毒蛇一般可怕，宜避之、断之唯恐不及。这是扫墓时，要深心刻记在心的。
而且，唯有我们净心行德，祖先与子孙才有得救的机会。所以，一定要率领子子孙孙一齐来，清净诸祖先与自己所有的罪业，不让祖先遗憾，并行出祖先所未行出的善德，口说心想身行都不亏损人性品德，以补益祖先的功德。如此才是真正的扫墓。

【植树节的由来】
3月12日是我国自己的植树节日，同时这一天也是孙中山逝世纪念日。孙中山先生生前十分重视林业建设，在他任中华民国临时大总统时，就设立了农林部，下设山林司，主管全国林业行政事务。1914年11月颁布了我国近代史上第一部《森林法》，1915年7月，政府又规定将每年的"清明节"定为植树节。
1979年2月，第五届全国人大常委会第六次会议根据国务院的提议，通过了将3月12日定为我国植树节的决议，这项决议的意义在于动员全国各族人民积极植树造林，加快绿化祖国和各项林业建设的步伐。将孙中山先生与世长辞之日定为我国植树节，也是为了缅怀孙中山先生的丰功伟绩，象征中山先生生前未能实现的遗愿将在新中国实现并且要实现得更好。
【植树节起源】
我国古代在清明时节就有插柳植树的传统，而近代植树节则最早由美国的内布拉斯加州发起。19世纪以前，内布拉斯加州是一片光秃秃的荒原，树木稀少，土地干燥，大风一起，黄沙漫天，人民深受其苦。1872年，美国著名农学家朱利叶斯·斯特林·莫尔顿提议在内布拉斯加州规定植树节，动员人民有计划地植树造林。当时州农业局通过决议采纳了这一提议，并由州长亲自规定今后每年4月份的第三个星期三为植树节。这一决定做出后，当年就植树上百万棵。此后的16年间，又先后植树6亿棵，终于使内布拉斯加州10万公顷的荒野变成了茂密的森林。为了表彰莫尔顿的功绩，1885年州议会正式规定以莫尔顿先生的生日4月22日为每年的植树节，并放假一天。
在美国，植树节是一个州定节日，没有全国统一规定的日期。但是每年4、5月间，美国各州都要组织植树节活动。例如，罗德艾兰州规定每年5月份的第二个星期五为植树节，并放假一天。其他各州有的是固定日期，也有的是每年由州长或州的其他政府部门临时决定植树节日期。每当植树节到来，以学生为主的社会各界群众组成浩浩荡荡的植树大军，投入植树活动。
据统计。美国有1/3的地区为森林树木所覆盖，这个成果同植树节是分不开的。
